Terms of Service
Last updated: 5 July 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Piptera, operated by Piptera, Switzerland (see the imprint). By using Piptera, you agree to these Terms.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or otherwise using the service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Description of the service
Piptera is an open catalog for browsing, sharing and versioning pipetting liquid classes for laboratory liquid handlers. The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
3. User content and licensing
You retain ownership of the content you contribute. By publishing a liquid class or comment publicly, you license that content to the public under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license: anyone may use, share and adapt it, including commercially, provided they credit you as the author and link back to the Piptera record. Private and team-visible content is not licensed for reuse. Do not contribute content you do not have the right to share.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload unlawful, harmful, or infringing content.
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service.
- Misrepresent the provenance or validation status of contributed data.
- Circumvent rate limits, pagination caps, or plan quotas, including by rotating IP addresses, accounts, or API keys.
- Share your API keys or use another person's. You are responsible for all activity performed with keys issued to your account; revoke a key immediately if it leaks.
5. API access
The REST API is part of the service and subject to these Terms. Anonymous and authenticated requests are rate-limited, and API keys carry a daily request quota determined by your plan. We may adjust limits to protect the service; current values are published in the API documentation.
6. Instrument validation disclaimer
Liquid classes on Piptera are community-contributed and are NOT a substitute for instrument validation. You are solely responsible for validating any parameters on your own hardware, with your own liquids and labware, before relying on them for laboratory work. We make no warranty as to accuracy, fitness for purpose, or safety of any contributed data.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Piptera and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the service or reliance on community-contributed data.
8. Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe is harmful to the service or its users.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. The exclusive place of jurisdiction is the operator's seat in Switzerland. Mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected.
